WE CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER LOCK DOWN
We can't afford another lock down
The exacerbating COVID-19 pandemic is taking a toll on people around the world with over four million people affected and over 280 of them already dead.
The world is on a partial lockdown, with only essential workers active while non-essential workers and social life has been grounded.
While scientists and laboratories are racing to find a cure, all other sectors are doing what they can to contribute towards curbing the pandemic - Apple and Google are working on solutions to track people affected by Covid-19 and the WHO on its part is supporting all affected countries to cushion the effect of the virus.
Even traditional medicines have also been employed to defeat the virus as advocaes of traditional medicines have already coined the slogan: “United Against Covid-19”.
Within the ECOWAS sub-region, Nigeria as at 10th of May, had the highest recorded death toll of 143, more than double the 49 deaths recorded by the member-state with the second highest number, Burkina Faso.
Infection rate has gone above 20 per cent in the past 2weeks even as the government of Nigeria struggles to manage the spread of coronavirus while also striving to provide palliatives to the vulnerable in the society. (see NCDC website for details).
In order to reduce this spread, Nigerian Government has introduced a compulsory use of Facemask in public places.
This compulsion is however a big challenge to the poor Nigerians, many of whom have had their livelihoods suspended for the past 5 weeks as a result of the lockdown, many of them now unable to afford the face masks which have now become 10 times more expensive and the cloth masks also not easily within reach for them.
In this regard, OTche Fashion House and Zoe’s Flower Foundation has partnered for a facemask distribution outreach tagged: “One Person One Mask” aimed at providing free facemask to as many poor Nigerians as possible.
The duo had on May 8, paid a courtesy visit to C.S.P. Usman Adamu Abini, the DPO Apo resettlement, where it donated 50 facemasks to help reduce the risk of spread within police force.
The team also visited the Durumi area of Gudu district, where it distributed free face mask to the populace, including children.
According to the Foundation, the move is to help curb the spread of the virus in the hope that people would not have to experience the hardship that would be occasioned by another lockdown if the virus spread increases.
You too can make an impact by donating six yards of Ankara to make 50 pieces of cloth masks for 50 people or pay equivalent amount to ZFTF Bank account number 0430123813, Account name: Zoe’s Flower the foundation, Bank Name: GT bank.
